Anaconda Historic District, Anaconda Leader Building, 121 Main St Anaconda, Deer Lodge County, MT

This two-story brick building has two exquisite oriel windows, made of sheet metal (possibly copper), on the second story street facade. When built, a saloon occupied the first level and furnished rooms occupied the second story of this structure. It was later used as the pay office and hiring office of the Anaconda Copper Mining Company in the 1930`s-40`s. Elaborate hardwood paneling in the upstairs interior and stairwell remains intact. The building subsequently became a stationary store and an advertising office for the Anaconda Standard from 1948 until 1970. It is now occupied by the Anaconda Leader newspaper offices and press room.
