James Patten--Coal Dock Superintendent
James Patten served as the superintendent of Duluth coal docks for many years. His obituary noted that he was "among the oldest coal company operators at the Head of the Lakes," and also known for other coal-related undertakings. Today, the Twin Ports of Duluth Minnesota and Superior Wisconsin are known more for shipping taconite ore pellets to steel mills along the Great Lakes, and the coal docks are no more.
