Nantucket Lodge No. 66, I.O.O.F., 7-21 Centre St Nantucket, Nantucket County, MA

N.A. and A.K. Sprague who operated a grocery in the north store by February 1, 1847; John Swain, grocery, by December 14, 1846; Hemon Crocker, grocery, by February 22, 1847; Sweet and Starbuck, boot, shoe, and leather shop (at Number Two Centre Streeet), by June 9, 1847; and H.S. Crocker, grocery (at Number Four Centre Street block). The Odd Fellows purchased the first floor shops during the 1920`s and have owned them to the present date (August 1967). Evidence of a fire scarred foundation in the basement indicate that there was an earlier building on the site (probably the Athearn Homestead), part of which was incorporated into Sherburne Hall. An addition, not considered significant to the current study, was built directly behind Shop Number One. Three pilasters, one on the first floor at Shop Two and two on the second floor above shop five, have been removed. Each shop owner has made interior changes.
