National Register of Historic Places - Timothy A Whiting House ( Whiting House;Heritage House )
Statement of Significance: The Whiting House is significant as a well-preserved representative example of residential Italianate architectural design which dates from Rochester's nineteenth century development as a center of agricultural commerce, before the twentieth century Mayo Clinic-related growth period. It was constructed for Timothy A. Whiting, prosperous Rochester grain merchant and owner of over 1,000 acres of cultivated land during the period when Olmsted County and southeast Minnesota was an important wheat-producing region. The Whiting House was moved three blocks in 1971-72 to avoid demolition; however, the house remains in the same north Rochester residential area traditionally known as Lower Town. Since the move the house has been restored and is presently maintained as a public historical museum.
