Original Building Permit
Original building permit, outlining: Built: 1908-1909 Original Owner: Edward J. Scriver Original Architect: C.B. Chapman Builder: W.O. Clark Additional notes from the archives: Architectural Influence: Trained under William Channing Whitney Source: https://archives.lib.umn.edu/repositories/8/resources/2249 The original building permit for 2631 Lake of the Isles Boulevard was issued on May 26, 1908, to property owner Edward J. Scriver for the construction of a new single-family dwelling. The home was designed by architect C.B. Chapman and built by contractor W.O. Clark. The permit describes a 33 by 55 foot, 2½-story frame residence with an estimated construction cost of $10,500. The home was scheduled for completion by October 1908. This permit confirms Edward J. Scriver as the original owner and establishes the home’s construction date, architectural authorship, and builder. It also reflects the significant investment made to construct a high-quality residence in the newly developing Lake of the Isles neighborhood during Minneapolis’s early twentieth-century growth.
