Abraham Cyrus Farmstead, 3271 Cyrus Rd (County Rd 1/6), Cyrus, Wayne County, WV

The Farmstead derives it significance primarily in terms of associations with events and persons important in local history. The Farmhosue is a well-preserved example of a style of country home once commonly found throughout the Big Sandy valley. Specifically, it is the oldest house in the village of White`s Creek, and is closely connected with the village`s early development. Abraham Cyrus (1818-1903), who had the Farmhouse built, was a prominent landowners influential in local and county affairs. Martin Chapman (1842-1903), its first resident, was a long-time merchant in White`s Creek, and later became an important figure in the political and economic history of Huntington, West Virginia. His son Floyd was born in the Farmhouse and served three terms as Huntington`s mayor. In 1893 the site was converted to a farmstead by members of the Cyrus family, and used by them as the seat of a 51-acre farm until 1980.
