John Clement Stocker House, 402 South Front St Philadelphia, Philadelphia County, PA
A good example of a large Philadelphia row house of the Federal Period. There are many fine details typical of the period including an unusual front cornice and entrance frontispeace capitals, both of which survive only in photographs. The house is located in what was one of the most stylish neighborhoods at the very summit of Society Hill. John Clement Stocker, the owner, was a wealthy and influential merchant, and his son, J.C. Stocker the second, was prominent citizen.
