4800 Ewing Ave S Home History Hills Gilbertson and Hayes, 1950/ Art: relief sculpture (front of church), 1950 An early modernist church in the brick box mode. The building is quite stark except for some stained glass and a huge relief sculpture of a shepherd and lamb that's pinned to the front façade One of the architects, Victor Gilbertson, had worked with Eliel Saarinen on Christ Lutheran. Church in the Longfellow neighborhood of Minneapolis just a year or so earlier, and the influence of that seminal design is clearly evident here. An education wing extends to the south side of the church and encloses a courtyard. Citation: Millett, Larry. AIA Guide to the Minneapolis Lake District. Minnesota Historical Society Press, 2009.
