5121 Sandy Hook Drive, Parma, OH, USA

My parents had this house built for our family in 1965. We moved here from a two bedroom house located at 5202 Albertly in Parma. One of my favorite memories of this neighborhood was that it was crawling with children my age. It was easy to get up a game of wiffleball in someone's back yard. We spend hours exploring the woods that are north of Sandy Hook in all seasons. There were great sledding hills, a couple of abandoned cars and other delights for someone 8-11 years old. If we wanted to play real baseball, we would crawl under the fence of what we called the reservoir, (5711 Pleasant Valley Road--visible on Google Maps). We weren't the only ones doing this. In the flat areas there were worn spots for bases. Sorry Cleveland Water Works for trespassing. Our dads said we could. I attended Royal Ridge Elementary (3-5th grade; now Parma Parks Department on Ridge Road). In 1968 Dag Hammarskjold Elementary opened across State Road on Tamarack Drive (now Steps Academy). Dad took a new job in Columbus in 1969 so we wound up moving to Worthington after the school year concluded.
