632 East Shotwell Street, Bainbridge, GA, USA

Property Details The Ehrlich-Immendorf House is being offered for sale. This beautiful historical home was built in 1898. The stunning Queen Anne style home is on the list of buildings designed by late-19th- and early-20th-century catalog architect, George Franklin Barber (1854 - 1915) and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It was owned by the Ehrlich family and features elaborate moldings, staircase, tin ceilings, hand-selected floorboards, and stained glass windows. This home contains mantels and doors that were saved when the first home on this lot burned. The dining room is large enough to seat 50 people. A fun fact about this home is that the Ehrlich-Immendorf House was the first home in Decatur County with electricity. The Immendorf Family has lovingly maintained this 100-plus-year-old home by keeping its austere grandeur while updating the home in 2017 with the installation of a new 5-ton HVAC system and in 2019 installed the new architectural styled slate roof. This spacious home is over 5, 500 square feet , and has a large backyard, outbuildings, and plenty of porches. You truly must see this one of a kind home in person to fully appreciate.

H. B. Ehrlich House, 1898, Bainbridge

Henry Bartow Ehrlich (1849-1929) came to Bainbridge from Germany in 1871, to take over the business of his brother, Abraham, who had been wounded in the Civil War and later died as a result of those wounds. In addition to a booming merchandising business, Mr. Ehrlich was a founder and first president of the Citizens Bank & Trust Company. This was the first home in Decatur County with electricity. Thanks to Sarah Gail Erlich Hytowitz, the great-granddaughter of the builder, for the identification. Evan Thibeault shared this: According to a front page article in the March 31, 1898 Bainbridge Democrat, the superintendent of construction of this house was W. H. Carr, who was, at the time of the article, handling the design and construction of the “Belcher Block” on the northwest corner of Broad and Water Streets. The article mentions the Ehrlich house being under construction and was to cost $5000! It was to be “two stories, with all modern improvements and conveniences, steel ceilings, plate glass windows, etc. and will be the finest in the city.” Bainbridge Residential Historic District, National Register of Historic Places Photograph by Brian Brown
