The Chollas Heights Naval Radio Transmitting Facility was a key component of the United States Navy`s development of long-range world wide radio communication systems prior to World War I and continuing up through the Cold War period. The facility is important to the San Diego region for its relation to events in local economic, military and radio science development. The facility was determined eligible for nomination to the National Register of Historic Places in 1993.
