Drew-Sherwood Farm, 7927 Elk Grove Blvd, Elk Grove, Sacramento County, CA

The Drew-Sherwood Farm appears to include one of the best-preserved early farm houses, not just in the Elk Grove area, but rather in southern Sacramento County a rare surviving example of an early farm house in this rapidly changing area. Other than the alteration of the front porch, the main facade of the Drew-Sherwood House, facing Elk Grove Boulevard, has changed little since it was built circa 1875, based on the 1880 engraving of the house depicted in a published county history. Its interior, somewhat more altered, nonetheless retains important character-defining details. While the three existing outbuildings date from a later period than the house and have, in some cases, been substantially altered, they were built by the family that owned the property for more than 85 years, have existed in relation to the house for more than half its life, and are included in this documentation set in order to provide a complete contextual depiction of the Drew-Sherwood Farm.
