Homeowner Story: 136 Partridge Trail

"My parents bought this home in 1987 to house them, my younger sister and I. My parents still live there as of today. My dad worked in the emergency services industry in Dare County for about 40 years. Before that, he was a Navy Seal in the Vietnam War and part of the Coastguard. After leaving the military in the '80s, he helped to start the first lifeguarding services on the Outer Banks and was an avid diver. In the years we lived in this home, Dad built many details into the house from things he collected from shipwrecks and old Outer Banks buildings (like the USS Huron and the old Nags Head Lifeguard House.) We built the upstairs addition to the home in 1999 to add a massive master bedroom suite."

Town of Kill Devil Hills Guide to Local Historic Landmarks

In March of 2005, the Commission finalized an inventory of potential historic landmarks and established criteria for designating local historic structures. The original inventory consisted of 125 structures and has been used as a tool to designate local historic landmarks through the State Historic Preservation Office. Designation of local historic landmarks is a process that includes extensive research of the property, owner notification, public hearings, and approval by the State Historic Preservation Office and the Board of Commissioners. From the beginning, the Commission decided to designate structures where the owners were willing participants.
