History This is possibly the oldest house on Nicollet Island dating from just after the Civil War. The structure is a two story, 1728 square foot, 11 room, three bedroom, four bathroom, duplex. The 1885 city directory indicates that Mr. and Mrs. A. H. Kirk resided at this address. A. H. Kirk is Alva Harry Kirk (1847-1928) who first lived in Minneapolis during 1871-1885 with his wife Regina and daughters Zoe and Katherine. About 1885 the Kirk family moved to Fergus Falls, Minnesota where Mr. Kirk owned and operated a flour mill. After the mill burned in 1902, the Kirk family moved to 205 West 33rd Street, Minneapolis, Minnesota, where Alva, Regina (1855-1928), Zoe (1876-1948), and Katherine (1877-1966) lived until they died. The Kirks had 2 younger sons, Albert H. (1885-1951) and Donald H. (b.~1890). The 1930 city directory indicates that Eugene B. Lynch and Eugene M. Briggs resided at this address. Alva Harry Kirk ( -1928,) Eugene M. Briggs ( -1943,) and Albert H. Kirk ( -1951) all died in Hennepin County. The property was last sold in 2000 by John A. and Mary O'Driscoll to Janet M. Deming for $358,500. The current owner of record is Janet M. Deming. The 1930 city directory indicates that Joseph Johnson resided at the former nearby 181 1/2 Island Avenue East. ...
