2006 West 49th Street Home History Architects Small House Service Bureau, 1923 Just after World War 1, Minneapolis architect Edwin Brown, then in partnership with Edwin Hewitt, created the Architects Small House Service Bureau. In- tended to help alleviate a housing shortage as soldiers returned from overseas, the bureau-which eventually became national in scope-provided architect- designed plans for small, generally inexpensive homes.
