National Register of Historic Places - Jukola Boardinghouse (Third Avenue Hotel)
Statement of Significance: The Jukkola Boarding House is significant as a well-preserved example of a once common and necessary feature of the Iron Range — the boarding house. The thousands of unmarried miners who initially populated the range found housing in these structures. As the ratio of men and women became more equal the boardinghouse system declined. The Jukkola Boarding House, however, continues to function in the same manner and for the same clientele as it has for 85 years.
