The single-story, double shotgun dwelling was constructed ca. 1923. The dwelling is an example of the most common residential building type in the Uptown district. Forty-eight per cent of the district`s 10,716 buildings adopt a shotgun form. The Alton Lear House is representative of the residential, shotgun buildings constructed during the final phase of the district`s development.
