Bernard & Ernestine Silberstein Residence

Called Highpoint, Bernard Silberstein secretly built this brick Colonial Revival house as a golden wedding anniversary surprise for his wife Erenestine, known as Nettie. Born in Hungary in 1848, Silberstein is thought to be Duluths first Jewish resident when he moved here in 1870. In 1871 he organized Silberstein & Bondy, which became one of the largest department stores in the region. His twenty years working on Duluths Parks Board helped create Duluths renown park system.
