2201 Lake of the Isles Pkwy E, Minneapolis, MN, USA

2201 Lake of the Isles Pkwy E Home History 1911 / Kenyon and Maine. 1922 One of the lake's most picturesque houses, set on a large lot behind a stone and iron fence complete with arched gateways. The stuccoes house, entered via an arcade off 22nd St. West, is a Mediterranean-Medieval English blend and a good example of the mix-and-match historicism common in the 1920s. The house's original owner, M. B. Kerr, was a sales manager at Munsingwear, Inc. The second owner, who com- missioned a large makeover of the property in 1922, was Edward W. Backus. A lumberman and paper milling magnate, Backus made and lost a fortune in the north woods. The small northern Minnesota town of Backus is named after him. Citation: Millett, Larry. AIA Guide to the Minneapolis Lake District. Minnesota Historical Society Press, 2009.
