Arthur`s Bakery is one of the oldest continuing retail establishments in downtown Baltimore, occupying various buildings in the retail district since 1832. Arthur`s moved to this structure in 1893. Structure is of architectural significance as one of last examples, although greatly altered, of early to mid 19th C townhouse construction that proliferated throughout the area surrounding the site chosen for what is today Lexington Markets.
