Turpin-Kofler-Buja House (John Turpin House) - National Register of Historic Places

Statement of Significance: The Turpin-Kofler-Buja property was designed by the famous New Orleans architect James Galller, Jr. The home was designed by Gallier for John Turpin, a partner in his firm, and was completed in 1854. The plan of the house probably served as the model for Gallier's own house in the French Quarter at 1132 Royal Street built between I857-I859, recently restored and now open as a museum (See article by William Cullison, "Gallier House-The Home of a Nineteenth Century New Orleans Architect," ANTIQUES (September 1972), p. 475,) In addition to this special historical significance the house is also significant as well-preserved example of the Greek Revival Style in New Orleans ^ plan, size, and proportion of the rooms; the detailing of the fireplaces and of ceiling moldings; the large sliding doors between the two parlors; the cornices over the windows; and the ironwork of the front galleries are among the features of interest.
