3001 Hennepin Ave, Minneapolis, MN, USA

3001 Hennepin Ave Home History Paul Pink and Associates, 1983/ incorporates older buildings, including the Gianakopulos Building, Adam Lansing Dorr, 1917 A classic project from the early 1980s, a time when significant tax credits became available and there was renewed public interest in historic preservation. As a design, this atrium-style indoor mall, built from a group of old buildings, isn't especially impressive except perhaps for its splendid rooftop sign. Even so, the mall played a critical role in Calhoun Square launching a new wave of development in Uptown. Given how many malls of this kind have failed, the fact that Calhoun Square is still around also ranks as an accomplishment. Work on various improvements to the mall, including added parking, began in 2008. Citation: Millett, Larry. AIA Guide to the Minneapolis Lake District. Minnesota Historical Society Press, 2009.
