According to local tradition this building is one of two houses originally constructed in the Bahama Islands, then dismantled, shipped to Key West and rebuilt there after the hurricane of 1846. The building exemplified characteristics of the architecture of the Bahama Islands which are prevalent in many Key West buildings.
