He also served as Michigan's Secretary of State in the late 1860s. Approximate date - the how was acquired by Charles and Mary Babcock. The house was nearly lost in the fall of 1992 when a fire started from a workman's paint removal equipment. The original 3rd floor was lost. Thankfully, there were no serious injuries.
