Originating from Benjamin Mohn's acquisition of a farm along Wyomissing Creek in 1846, the area evolved with the construction of stores and mills, giving rise to the settlement of Mohnsville. The community thrived with the establishment of factories, particularly hat manufacturing facilities, which capitalized on the swift flow of the creek for power. Among these enterprises was William Pennepacker's esteemed gun barrel factory. With the success of these industries, Mohnsville was officially incorporated in 1907, adopting the name Mohnton.
