This building, commissioned by the Santa Fe Land Improvement Company as small-scale pre-sold speculative housing in the midst of the commercial center of town, is one of a group of four rowhouses in the Civic Center of Rancho Santa Fe designed by Lilian Rice in emulation of urban residences in Spain. The public (street) facade is decorated with iron window grills and heavy wooden gate, and there is a front patio and back garden for privacy.
