The building was designed by Los Angeles architect Arthur Kelly. The two-story building was originally built as a dormitory for the Westlake School for Girls and was completed in 1928. Kelly, with Joe Estep, designed the entire campus plan for the school as well as all of the initial buildings. They employed a romantic, Southern California regional version of the Spanish Colonial Revival style for the campus architecture.
