Fire!
In 1909, a fire broke out at 707 Fairmount Avenue, and according to the snippet, twice! The residents were away in California, probably having escaped the brutal Minnesota winter, and when the fire broke out the house was in the care of a servant. Reportedly the fire caused $500 in damages, which would be over $17,000 in value today. The cause was supposed to be due to “defective furnace flues.”

Lewis A Robinson 1896-1910
Between the years 1896 to 1910, the home at 707 Fairmount Avenue was occupied by Lewis Robinson and his wife Lucy. The couple had been married for only a few years when they moved in; accompanying them were their children, Bessie and Mary, and his parents Frederick and Louisa Robinson. Like Louis Jamme before him, Lewis Robinson was also an executive with the Chicago, St. Paul, Minneapolis and Omaha Railway. In 1901 it was absorbed by the Northwestern Railroad. Robinson worked for the merged company as comptroller until his retirement, shortly before his death.

Louis T. Jamme, From Railroads to Real Estate
Louis T. Jamme was the first occupant of 707 Fairmount Avenue, the home his father began building in 1892. A capable and ambitious businessman, Jamme rose steadily through the ranks of the Chicago, St. Paul, Minneapolis and Omaha Railway, earning a strong reputation in railroad administration. He was also active in the St. Paul Commercial Club, an organization devoted to promoting local enterprise and cultivating professional connections through banquets and visits from business leaders across the country. Jamme lived at 707 Fairmount for only about a year before moving on to other residences in the Twin Cities. In later years, he relocated to Chicago, where he entered the field of industrial real estate and became a well-regarded member of the business community. His success, however, ended suddenly in 1924, when a Chicago newspaper reported that he had “dropped dead at a realty meeting,” bringing an abrupt close to a life defined by steady professional advancement.
