The original owner of the house, which was built for $3,000, was Christine Newman. It is believed that she was the wife of Axel Newman, a St. Paul contractor and carpenter who lived at this address. It is uncertain why the pediment has an 1894 date when the permit indicates 1906. A large building with Classical Revival ornamentation and a strong symmetrical design. First Owner: Christine Newman Notes: Classical revival ornamentation. Rectangular wide 1/1 windows. Wide overhanging eaves with modillions underneath. Pedimented flared gabled dormer on third floor front facade. Pedimented porch with concrete piers and 3/1 fenestration. Round medallion in porch tympanum with date of 1894.
