1601 West 50th Street, Minneapolis, MN, USA
1601 West 50th Street Home History Kodet Architectural Group, 2003 Another fine design from the Kodet firm, not quite as powerful as their Whittier School a few miles to the north at 315 26th St. West, but still very convincing. Tall and narrow, this school- which replaced a 1920s-vintage predecessor-consists of two sections, one of which is angled to follow the line of nearby Minnehaha Creek. The lower stories are clad in red brick, with blue green metal above. As with other schools designed by this firm, Burroughs seems to achieve just the right mix of institutional heft-the idea that education is serious and important-and a welcoming presence. Citation: Millett, Larry. AIA Guide to the Minneapolis Lake District. Minnesota Historical Society Press, 2009.
