5025 Knox Ave S Home History Hugo Haeuser (Milwaukee), 1949/later additions With 13,000 members, Mount Olivet is the world's largest Lutheran congregation. There were only 20 members when the congregation was founded in 1920, and it was still quite small as late as 1940. However, its population grew rapidly after World War II, leading to the construction of this stone church. Mount Olivet follows English Gothic models and includes a pair of side chapels that can be used for extra seating during services. The long nave, beneath a beamed ceiling, has large stained-glass windows in deep blue and red hues. Mount Olivet also maintains a second church in suburban Victoria. Citation: Millett, Larry. AIA Guide to the Minneapolis Lake District. Minnesota Historical Society Press, 2009.
