2409 Lake of the Isles Pkwy E, Minneapolis, MN, USA

2409 Lake of the Isles Pkwy E Home History Purcell and Feick, 1908 / additions, 1918 and later This house was one of William Purcell's first projects in Minneapolis, done before George Elmslie became his partner (though Elmslie helped with the design). Purcell began planning the house for himself but later named it for his grandmother, who came from Chicago in 1907 to live with him. As built, the house was heavily influenced by Frank Lloyd Wright's "Fireproof Home for $5,000," a design published in 1907. Prairie Style features here include high brick corner piers, a shallow hipped roof, and bands of casement windows, some of which wrap around corners. Originally, the house had a one-story entry pavilion on its north side, where there's now an addition. In 2004, Minnesota Public Radio acquired the house from a longtime supporter, refurbished it, and sold it for more than $1.5 million as part of a fundraising campaign. Citation: Millett, Larry. AIA Guide to the Minneapolis Lake District. Minnesota Historical Society Press, 2009.
