John Maury House, 302 C St NorthweSt Washington, District of Columbia, DC
This old house with its simple dignified facade of good proportions and granite steps protected by delicate wrought iron railings, leading to the main entrance with Doric columns set in the depth of the brick opening,was typical for the period in Washington. The house and one adjoining on the west were built approximately in 1825 by Charles H. Wiltberger, from who 302 was purchased in 1836 by John W. Maury. The new purchaser had served as alderman and later was Mayor of Washington, from 1835-153. in this vicinity were the residences of men prominent in politics and the social life of the Capitol. The Maury house was often the center of brilliant entertainment`s, both official and private.
