Nichols-Wanton-Hunter House, 54 Washington St Newport, Newport County, RI
This large 2-1/2 story house (1748) with balustraded gambrel roof and heavy stud construction is an excellent example of an early Georgian frame residence. It was presumably built for Deputy Royal Governor Jonathan Nichols, Jr. It was designated as a National Historic Landmark in 1968.
