William Grafton House, 65 Poplar St Newport, Newport County, RI
The Buildings of Rhode Island catalogue entry for this house (p. 524) describes it as being more compact than its across-the-street neighbor, the Robinson House. The central chimney was embellished later by the construction of a railed platform around it as well as the insertion of two dormer windows. The door with its flanking pilasters and broken pediment is a replica of the surround at the Hunter House. The architect Charles McKim was retained to remodel the interior.
