National Register of Historic Places - Rudolph Latto House ( Latto Hospital )

Statement of Significance: The Rudolph Latto House is significant due to its transitional Eastlake style of architecture. The residence was constructed in 1880-81 by Mr. Rudolph Latto president of the German American bank in Hastings, At the time of his death Mr. Latto willed his home to the City of Hastings to be used as a hospital. In 1914 the hospital opened its doors after making several modifications to the structure. These modifications were paid for with a $10,000 gift from Mr. Latto's estate. Today the building is used by the city as a board and care home. After many years of use and several modifications the Latto residence is still an excellent example of the transitional mode of the Eastlake style of architecture.
