Built in honor of the first owner of this home, was Helen McKerrow Elementary School. Construction completed in 1927 at 4800 Collingwood Street on Detroit’s west side. Ethyl Claes ran a second-hand bookstore in the house and is known/recognized by those in the know" as the leader of the fight to prevent "urban renewal", that in the 1950s would have resulted in the complete destruction of the neighborhood in the 1950s. She was known as the "Queen of Corktown" Original Owner: Helen McKerrow
