2424 Lake Place, Minneapolis, MN, USA
2424 Lake Place Home History Long, Lamoreaux and Long, 1917 Purcell and Elmslie are Minneapolis's best-known Prairie architects, but other local firms tried their hand at progressive design, sometimes with more than pass- able results. This L-shaped house lacks the dynamism of Purcell's own home, but it's still nicely done, with a centralized formal entry and broadly proportioned windows that derive from the work of George Maher. The first owner was president of the Leslie Paper Co. and in 1930 cofounded the Ampersand Club, an organization devoted to fine printing and the book arts that remains active today. Citation: Millett, Larry. AIA Guide to the Minneapolis Lake District. Minnesota Historical Society Press, 2009.
