4551 Lake Harriet Pkwy. Home History East Ernest Kennedy, 1916 / remodeled, ca. 1990s and later A rather severe Beaux-Arts mansion with a concave curve at the corner, where classically derived ornament frames the front door. The house was originally clad in stone but has since been stuccoes over. The home was designed for members of the Rand family, who owned the Minneapolis Gas Co. Rufus Rand, Jr., a World War I aviator and longtime flight enthusiast, later built the Rand Tower (1929) in downtown Minneapolis. Citation: Millett, Larry. AIA Guide to the Minneapolis Lake District.
