Captain Parker Borden House, 736 Hope St Bristol, Bristol County, RI
The five-bay dwelling constructed for Parker Borden exhibits some of the most refined woodwork of the late eighteenth century, particularly the mantels and delicately carved detail on the staircase. The central entrance to the house is marked by a pedimented doorway with flanking, engaged columns in the Ionic Order. A Palladian window is the highlight of the second-story. This last feature was adopted by architect Wallis E. Howe for the buildings he designed during the Colonial Revival period. (See Buildings of Rhode Island, p. 469-70).
