Joseph Reynolds House, 956 Hope St Bristol, Bristol County, RI
The historical significance of the Joseph Reynolds House is due to the tradition that the Marquis de Lafayette stayed in the building during the Revolutionary War years. Architecturally, it is notable for the coved plaster cornice along the facade and for the bolection moldings and almost Elizabethian staircase inside. The dwelling had a central hall plan and was expanded in the eighteenth century with a two-story lean-to. This addition gives the building a salt-box shape today.
