The first known tenant in this large frame house was Frank R. Massey, vice president of the Kent-Rountree Shoe Comapny; Massey lived in the house for a brief period in 1894-95 while his new house at 8338 East Walnut was under construction. Following Massey was John R. Tarrant, who also occupied the building for a short period, and later J.L. Long, owner of J.L. Long and Sons Furniture. Although once probably an impressive Late Victorian residence, this building has been altered significantly through its conversion into apartments and today stands compromised to a large extent.
