Statement of Significance: The Frederick E. DuToit House is significant due to its association with the second generation of one of Chaska's leading families. The Chaska Herald was published by the DuToit family for over one hundred years. In addition to publishing the county's oldest continuously operating newspaper, Frederick E. DuToit was active in state and local politics. He was a representative in the legislature in 1872-3, and a state senator, 1899-1909 This well-preserved house has continuously been occupied by the DuToit family. Julianne DuToit Smith, granddaughter of Frederick E, DuToit, has preserved the house and a number of significant personal effects once owned by her grandfather.
