National Register of Historic Places - E.H. Lewis House

Statement of Significance: This house, built ca.1870, is significant as the residence of two of Chaska's leading families -- the Lucius Faber family and the Dr. E.H. Lewis family. Architecturally, it is significant as a well-preserved residence that has retained a significant degree of original design integrity. The Faber family was involved with Chaska's commercial growth from the mid-1850s well into the 20th century. The Faber family built and operated Chaska's first hotel, the Chaska House from 1855 until 1857. The Faber family, in partnership with Florian Linenfelser, established Chaska's earliest and largest mercantile trade. In addition, they owned and operated numerous small businesses in Chaska. E.H. Lewis was a prominent doctor in Chaska from 1872 until the turn-of-the-century. During the decade of the 1870s he lived in Carver but maintained an office in Chaska. In 1880 Lewis purchased this house and established a medical practice on Chaska's main street.
